Alan Carr has publicly apologised to his close friend Paloma Faith after his dramatic “murder” of her on the hit BBC show Celebrity Traitors.
The comedian, who went on to win the celebrity edition of the high-stakes reality game, left fans stunned in last night’s finale when he revealed himself as one of the secret Traitors. His betrayal of Paloma, who had been one of his closest allies, has since become one of the most talked-about moments of the series.
Appearing on the spin-off show Celebrity Traitors: Uncloaked with host Ed Gamble, Alan admitted that while he may have taken home the prize, his conscience has taken quite the hit.
“The thing is, when I killed Paloma, I felt sick inside,” he said. “It was such a cruel twist to have to touch someone’s face. You’ve got to remember, it’s not just the act, it’s your friend, and she’s looking at you with total trust.”
The shocking moment saw Alan secretly “murder” Paloma by brushing her face with pollen from a fake poisoned lily, a signature twist in the Traitors format. The singer and actress, who is pregnant, had no idea that Alan was behind her downfall until the grand reveal, and she appeared visibly emotional as the truth came out.
Alan continued to explain that while he knew it was part of the game, he didn’t expect to feel so devastated afterwards.
“I honestly didn’t want to do it. But when it came down to it, I had no choice, it’s a game, and someone had to go,” he said. “Now, if I’d touched anyone else’s face, I’d probably be sent straight to HR!” he joked, trying to lighten the mood.
The pair’s friendship has long been known off-screen, with Alan and Paloma sharing the same social circles in the entertainment industry. However, fans were quick to notice the tension between them during the show’s final episodes, as Paloma began to suspect Alan’s loyalty.
Insiders say Paloma was “furious” after her elimination but has since forgiven Alan following a private conversation after filming wrapped.
Speaking to Ed Gamble on Uncloaked, Alan revealed he’s since checked in on her to make sure all is well.
“I’ve spoken to Paloma since and said sorry, she’s amazing, she gets it. She said she’d have done the same to me if it was the other way around,” he laughed.
The special celebrity version of The Traitors, filmed in a stunning Scottish castle, has been praised by viewers for its gripping gameplay, emotional betrayals, and Alan’s quick wit throughout the competition.
However, during an appearance on the spin-off Uncloaked with the rest of the star-studded cast after the episode aired, Alan admitted he felt immense guilt about deceiving his friends, especially when it came to eliminating his close pal, Paloma, (pictured) – Credit: BBC
Fans have taken to social media to call Alan’s victory “well-deserved,” with one viewer writing:
“Alan Carr deserves an award for this. The way he played everyone while still being funny and kind was genius!”
The BBC has not yet confirmed whether another Celebrity Traitors series will be made, but with record ratings and online buzz, it seems highly likely.
For now, Alan Carr is basking in his win,but also doing a little damage control with his famous friends.
