AMANDALAND CHRISTMAS SPECIAL REUNITES LEGENDARY COUPLE

AMANDALAND CHRISTMAS SPECIAL REUNITES LEGENDARY COUPLE

It’s the Christmas gift fans didn’t know they needed, Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley are reuniting on screen for the Amandaland Christmas special, marking their first scripted collaboration since the Absolutely Fabulous film in 2016.

BBC bosses have confirmed that the festive edition of the hit comedy will see Saunders join the cast as Aunt Joan, the sister of Joanna Lumley’s character Felicity, in what’s set to be a hilarious and heartwarming episode.

Producers have teased that while the two sisters share the same high-class background, their personalities couldn’t be more different. Joan is described as an “enthusiastic, country-living, upper-class whirlwind,” while Felicity is a polished, self-assured socialite with little patience for eccentricity.

Speaking about the reunion, Jennifer Saunders said:

“I am delighted to be joining the fabulous Amandaland gang for a Christmas special. Playing Joanna’s on-screen sister is guaranteed to be a laugh, who doesn’t love a family reunion SoHa style?”

The Christmas special will be part of the BBC’s festive line-up, which already boasts returning favourites and star-studded specials. But it’s this Absolutely Fabulous reunion that’s got viewers most excited.

Fans of Ab Fab will remember Saunders and Lumley’s electric chemistry as Edina Monsoon and Patsy Stone, the fashion-obsessed duo whose outrageous antics became a cultural phenomenon throughout the ‘90s and 2000s. Their return to comedy together has sparked nostalgia and anticipation among audiences who grew up quoting their iconic one-liners.

Amandaland, created by and starring Amanda Redman, follows the chaotic and hilarious adventures of Felicity and her South Harlesden friends as they navigate love, family, and the occasional social mishap. The first series was praised for its sharp writing, warm humour, and Amanda’s trademark wit, quickly becoming a hit with viewers looking for a modern British sitcom with old-school charm.

The addition of Saunders to the Christmas special promises even more laughs, and a touch of festive mischief. Her character’s rural eccentricities are expected to clash spectacularly with Felicity’s refined London lifestyle, creating the perfect recipe for chaos.

BBC comedy insiders say the on-screen reunion between Lumley and Saunders was a dream come true:

“As soon as the idea came up to cast Jennifer as Joanna’s sister, everyone loved it. The chemistry between them is timeless, and the Christmas special gave us the perfect excuse to bring them together again.”

The Amandaland Christmas special will air this December on BBC One and iPlayer, while a second series is already in production for 2026.

The announcement has been met with excitement online, with fans taking to social media to express their joy. One viewer posted, “Jennifer and Joanna back together? That’s my Christmas made already!”

For those who still quote Absolutely Fabulous lines like “Sweetie, darling!” or “Eddy, I’m in the mood for mischief,” this festive reunion is set to be pure comedy gold.

As the BBC prepares to roll out its Christmas schedule, one thing’s certain, Amandaland will be at the top of everyone’s watchlist this holiday season.
