Rock icon Alice Cooper is turning back the clock in the most epic way possible, by reuniting with his original bandmates for their first album together in over five decades. Titled The Revenge of Alice Cooper, the new record marks a long-awaited return to the collaborative spirit that helped define the shock rock genre in the late '60s and early '70s.
For the first time since 1973’s Muscle of Love, Cooper will team up with guitarist Michael Bruce, bassist Dennis Dunaway, and drummer Neil Smith. The announcement has electrified fans of classic rock, with many celebrating the revival of one of rock’s most influential original lineups. Together, the Alice Cooper band released seven groundbreaking studio albums between 1969 and 1973, including the legendary School’s Out and Billion Dollar Babies, before Cooper went solo and carved out his theatrical, horror-inspired solo career.
Speaking to Billboard, Cooper revealed that stepping back into the studio with his old friends felt surprisingly natural. “It was very much like this was our next album after Muscle of Love,” he said. “Just like, ‘OK, this is the next album.’ Isn’t that funny after 50 years? All of a sudden it just falls into place.”
Despite the decades that have passed, the chemistry between the original members appears to have remained intact. Fans can expect The Revenge of Alice Cooper to carry the raw, riff-heavy sound that made the group famous, but with the added weight of experience and a modern edge. The title itself teases a return to form, fierce, theatrical, and unrelentingly Alice.
Though Cooper has continued to release solo albums and tour relentlessly in recent years, including his 2021 album Detroit Stories, this reunion offers something uniquely nostalgic and historic. The band’s last record together, Muscle of Love, was released at the height of their fame and marked the end of an era. Now, The Revenge of Alice Cooper feels like the unexpected sequel fans never dared to hope for.
There’s no confirmed release date yet, but anticipation is already running high as longtime fans prepare to hear the classic lineup in action once more. If this album captures even a fraction of the magic that defined their early years, it’s sure to be one of the most talked-about rock releases of the year.
After 50 years apart, Alice Cooper and his original band are back, and rock’s twisted prince is ready for revenge.
