BLUE PETER MAKES HISTORY WITH FIRST-EVER NON-HUMAN PRESENTER: HACKER T. DOG JOINS THE TEAM

After 67 years of iconic badges, sticky-back plastic, and unforgettable moments, Blue Peter has made a truly historic change, by hiring its first-ever non-human presenter.

The long-running BBC children’s favourite announced today that Hacker T. Dog, the mischievous CBBC puppet, will officially join the presenting team alongside Abby Cook, Joel Mawhinney, Shini Muthukrishnan, and Blue Peter pet dog Henry.

The move marks the first time in the show’s rich history that a puppet has been appointed as a permanent host, and fans are already hailing the decision as a masterstroke of fun and creativity.

From Scoop to stardom

Hacker first appeared on CBBC screens back in 2009, originally voiced by Andy Heath as part of the sitcom Scoop. He quickly won over young audiences with his cheeky sense of humour, quirky catchphrases, and undeniable charm.

Voice actor and puppeteer Phil Fletcher soon took over the role, turning Hacker into a firm favourite across CBBC and beyond, often stealing the spotlight from his human co-hosts.

Over the years, Hacker has taken on hosting duties for CBBC, popped up on countless kids’ shows, and even made guest appearances on Blue Peter before. Now, he’s officially part of the Blue Peter family full-time.

“National treasure”

Sharing the news in a typically tongue-in-cheek statement, Hacker said:

"It’s dead exciting! Thank you for letting me aboard the mighty ship Blue Peter. I am privileged, nay proud, to be involved in this fine institution and top-notch show. That’s right folks, it’s me Hacker The Dog, national treasure, and new Blue Peter presenter."

Producers of the iconic show say they hope Hacker will bring his trademark humour and anarchic energy to a new generation of Blue Peter viewers, while also appealing to nostalgic parents who grew up watching him.

Fans react

On social media, reaction was overwhelmingly positive, with many adults admitting they’ll now be tuning back in just to see Hacker in action.

One viewer posted: “Best decision Blue Peter’s made in years. My kids love Hacker, and let’s be honest, so do I!”

Another joked: “Hacker T. Dog being promoted to Blue Peter presenter is the kind of chaotic energy this country needs.”

With its mix of craft challenges, world records, and inspirational stories, Blue Peter remains one of the world’s longest-running children’s programmes, still going strong since its launch in 1958.

Now, with a puppet at the helm, who knows what madcap adventures lie ahead for the Blue Peter crew?
