The superstar, known as much for her outspoken views as her genre-defying music, kicked off the London leg of her Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour on Tuesday night with a strict no-meat rule in place. Every single food vendor at the O2 was required to remove animal products from their menus for the evening, serving only plant-based options to the sold-out crowd.
The six-night residency marks another step in the singer’s commitment to animal rights and sustainability, themes she has championed throughout her career. Fans lining up for refreshments could choose from a range of meat-free dishes, including peri-peri halloumi wraps, chipotle tacos, corn naan, pizzas, loaded fries, and even vegan pancakes.
A spokesperson for the O2 confirmed it was the arena’s first-ever completely plant-based event, adding that they were proud to help deliver Eilish’s vision for an environmentally conscious concert experience.
While many of Eilish’s vegan and vegetarian fans praised her bold decision, not everyone was happy.
One concert-goer told the Daily Mail: “Punters were less than impressed with the vegan options, a mixture of pizzas, cauliflower bits and loaded fries, with more than one asking, ‘did they run out of meat or something?’”
Social media also reflected the split in opinion. While some applauded the move as “forward-thinking” and “exactly what live events should be doing in 2025,” others criticised the lack of variety and higher prices, with tickets already costing upwards of £70 per person.
Eilish has yet to comment publicly on the backlash but is unlikely to be fazed. The Grammy and Oscar-winning artist has consistently used her platform to advocate for environmental awareness, urging fans to make more sustainable choices and calling out the meat and dairy industries for their climate impact.
Her Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour continues at the O2 through the weekend before moving on to other European cities.
