Country music icon Billy Ray Cyrus has opened up for the first time about his unexpected romance with British actress and model Elizabeth Hurley, and the way it all started sounds straight out of a movie.
In a candid interview on The Ty Bentli Show, the Achy Breaky Heart singer reflected on a particularly low point in his life when an unexpected message from Hurley came through, a moment he now sees as a turning point.
“I felt like, ‘Wow, can life get any harder? Can it get any tougher?’” he shared. “For me, at a certain point, it was like, you can’t get knocked down any flatter than laying on your back when life is kicking you. And in this moment... a friend reached out.”
That friend turned out to be none other than Elizabeth Hurley, though Cyrus didn’t realise it right away. “I didn't even know the number,” he admitted. “So, I text back, I go, ‘Who is this?’ And it’s like, ‘Elizabeth Hurley.’ Of all the people to reach out to me in that second that maybe I needed most… this friend who made me laugh.”
The pair had previously worked together on a 2022 holiday film, but hadn't spoken since wrapping the project. Despite only sharing a handful of scenes, Cyrus said there had been a spark on set. “We just laughed, and it was at a time I wasn’t laughing a lot,” he recalled.
What began as a friendly check-in quickly reignited a connection that Cyrus hadn’t forgotten. “The oddest part was first, how much we laughed,” he said. “Second, I figured we were so different but in some very strange way we had way more in common than we had different.”
Now, their once-casual friendship appears to be blossoming into something more meaningful. While the couple have yet to go public on social media, fans have been buzzing over the romance rumours for weeks, and with Cyrus’s emotional recollection now confirming the chemistry, it seems love might really be in the air.
