Oasis have cemented their legendary status in British music history once again, with their 1994 classic Live Forever topping Radio X’s prestigious Best of British poll for 2025, a title that sees the Manchester band beat out some of the most iconic songs ever recorded.
The annual listener-voted chart, now in its tenth year, is a celebration of the very best in British music, and Oasis' dominance is undeniable. Not only did Live Forever take the number one spot, but the Britpop giants managed to land an astonishing 16 tracks in the Top 100, with four of those occupying places in the coveted top 10.
Beating out Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, which once again settled for second place, Live Forever soared above a lineup of rock and indie anthems. The anthemic Slide Away took third place, while Champagne Supernova rounded off the top five in fifth. Another Oasis favourite, Don’t Look Back in Anger, claimed eighth spot, securing the Gallagher brothers' near-total domination of the poll.
Radio X listeners have long held Oasis in high regard, but this year’s results underline the enduring love for the band’s catalogue. Their blend of swagger, raw emotion, and working-class poetry continues to strike a chord with fans, more than three decades since they first burst onto the scene.
In a list brimming with legends, Live Forever edged past not only Queen but also tracks from The Stone Roses (I Am The Resurrection, fourth), The Rolling Stones (Gimme Shelter, sixth), and Arctic Monkeys (505, ninth). Newer talent also made its mark, with Sam Fender’s Seventeen Going Under holding strong in seventh place, and Amy Winehouse’s soul-stirring Back To Black closing out the top 10.
The full Top 20 also paid tribute to British rock’s rich tapestry, with classics from Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Pulp, and Joy Division holding their own among the indie and Britpop heavyweights. Courteeners, Nothing But Thieves, and Paolo Nutini added a modern edge to the mix, while Shed Seven’s Chasing Rainbows at number 20 was a nostalgic nod to the golden age of ‘90s guitar bands.
For Oasis fans, the poll results are further proof that the band’s music remains timeless.
