The BBC’s hit travel competition Celebrity Race Across the World is officially returning next month, and the line-up promises another unforgettable adventure filled with breathtaking scenery, emotional family moments, and plenty of drama on the road.
This latest series will see a group of famous faces and their loved ones take on a 5,900km race across Central America, travelling from Isla Mujeres in Mexico all the way to the remote Península de La Guajira in Colombia, with no smartphones, no flights, and a limited budget.
The six-part series will once again test the endurance, teamwork, and resourcefulness of its celebrity contestants as they attempt to make it to the finish line first using only local transport and their wits to get by.
The 2025 celebrity line-up is one of the most exciting yet, featuring:
Broadcaster Anita Rani and her father Bal, Actor Dylan Llewellyn (best known for Derry Girls and Big Boys) and his mum Jackie, Radio presenter Tyler West and EastEnders star Molly Rainford, Capital FM host Roman Kemp and his sister, singer Harley Moon Kemp, daughter of Spandau Ballet legend Martin Kemp.
The series, which has become one of the BBC’s most loved factual-entertainment formats, will once again challenge its contestants to travel through multiple countries using only local transport, think buses, trains, ferries, and the occasional hitchhike. Along the way, they’ll face extreme heat, language barriers, cultural differences, and the constant pressure of beating the other teams to each checkpoint.
Producers have promised the most visually stunning and emotional season yet, with the teams journeying through Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, and Colombia. Each leg of the race will reveal new adventures and difficult decisions, as the celebrities must balance the desire to explore with the drive to win.
The first leg begins on the tropical island of Isla Mujeres, located just off the eastern coast of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. From there, the teams will weave their way through bustling cities, ancient Mayan ruins, dense jungles, and coastal villages, before reaching the finish line at La Guajira, one of Colombia’s most remote and spectacular regions.
Returning viewers can expect the same combination of breathtaking travel moments and emotional family connections that have made the series such a hit. The show’s charm lies not just in its competition element but in the personal journeys the contestants undertake, learning about themselves and each other as they traverse the globe under pressure.
Anita Rani, who previously co-presented Countryfile and Watchdog, said she was “thrilled to be back in adventure mode,” adding that the experience with her father Bal would be “life-changing.” Meanwhile, Roman Kemp has said he’s excited to travel with his sister Harley Moon, joking that “if we survive this without arguing, it’ll be a miracle.”
The previous celebrity series, set across Canada, drew huge viewing figures and praise for its heartwarming storytelling and authentic emotional moments. Fans can expect the same mix of tension, humour, and cultural discovery this time around, as the teams navigate one of the most vibrant and diverse regions on Earth.
Celebrity Race Across the World will air on BBC One and iPlayer next month, with the exact premiere date to be announced shortly. One thing’s for sure: the race is on, and the adventure of a lifetime is about to begin.
