In a revelation that’s taken fans by surprise, Cat Deeley and Patrick Kielty have announced they have separated after more than a decade of marriage. The pair, often hailed as one of British and Irish TV’s most enduring power couples, confirmed the news in a joint statement released yesterday.
The couple, who tied the knot in September 2012 in a romantic ceremony in Rome, share two sons, Milo, 8, and James, 5. Their marriage, often praised for its privacy and strength, had appeared rock solid to the outside world, making this announcement all the more unexpected.
In their heartfelt joint statement, the pair insisted that their split was amicable and that there is no third party involved:
“We have taken the decision to end our marriage and are now separated. There is no other party involved.
We will continue to be united as loving parents to our children and would therefore kindly ask for our family privacy to be respected.
There will be no further comment.”
Deeley, 47, is currently on her summer break from presenting ITV’s This Morning, where she co-hosts alongside Ben Shephard. She recently hinted at taking time to "recharge and reset", a statement that may now hold deeper meaning in light of this news.
Kielty, 53, is set to return to the screen in September as the host of Ireland’s long-running Late Late Show on RTÉ, following a successful debut season in the iconic Friday night slot.
The couple met in the early 2000s while filming Fame Academy and remained friends for several years before becoming romantically involved. Their relationship, which blossomed out of a solid friendship, had been viewed by fans as refreshingly low-key and authentic, a rarity in showbiz.

News of their separation has sparked a wave of reaction on social media, with fans expressing both sadness and support. Many praised the couple’s dignified handling of the situation and their emphasis on putting their children first.
“Such a shame. They seemed so genuinely in love and grounded. But full respect for how they’re handling this,” one fan posted on X.
Though their romantic chapter has ended, both Deeley and Kielty have made it clear their focus will remain firmly on their family. Their separation statement underlines their joint commitment to raising their children in a stable and loving environment.
