Chris Hughes is stepping in to join the new series of Celebs Go Dating, following Christine McGuinness’ sudden departure from the show.
The former Love Island star and recent Celebrity Big Brother finalist has reportedly been signed up as a last-minute addition after Christine pulled out of the process, citing that it felt “too soon” to start publicly dating again.
Christine had already flown to Ibiza to begin filming with the rest of the cast, but in an emotional Instagram post on Thursday night, she revealed she had made the decision to step away from the series and return home to her family. Her decision comes amid intense media attention surrounding her personal life, which she admitted had made her uncomfortable about dating on screen.
She told fans, “Sometimes you’ve just got to follow your gut. I had a change of heart, and home is where I need to be.”
Producers of the hit E4 reality show didn’t waste any time filling the gap left by Christine, and quickly snapped up Chris Hughes, who has remained in the spotlight since his breakout reality TV success. With public interest in Chris still high following his appearance on Celebrity Big Brother and his brief on-screen connection with co-star JoJo, show bosses reportedly saw his signing as a “great coup.”
A TV insider told The Sun: “This is set to be a great coup for Celebs Go Dating. The agents will be eager to get to know the real truth about Chris and what he is looking for following his connection with JoJo.”
Chris is expected to join the rest of the cast as filming continues in both the UK and overseas locations. His arrival adds a new dynamic to the show, which already features a star-studded lineup of single celebrities hoping to find love under the guidance of the show’s expert dating agents.
