Arsenal and England midfielder Declan Rice has received a very special surprise off the pitch, a guitar personally signed by global music superstar Ed Sheeran.
The unexpected gift came as a sweet gesture from the chart-topping singer-songwriter, who is known for his love of football and friendships with players across the Premier League. The acoustic guitar, bearing Sheeran’s unmistakable signature, was presented to Rice recently, and the Arsenal star couldn’t hide his delight.
Rice, who has become a fan favourite since joining Arsenal from West Ham last summer, took to social media to share his excitement, posting a photo of the prized instrument alongside a simple caption: “Unreal! Thank you @edsheeran 🙌🏼🎸”
The friendship between Sheeran and a number of England players is no secret, the Suffolk-born singer has previously been spotted at England training camps, playing impromptu acoustic sets and even giving the squad some private performances during major tournaments. It’s clear the bond runs deeper than just music and sport, with Sheeran regularly gifting signed memorabilia to players he supports.
While Declan Rice is best known for his tough tackling and commanding midfield presence, this gift may just spark a new passion, perhaps fans could one day see him strumming a few chords of Perfect or Thinking Out Loud during downtime at St George’s Park.
For now, though, it’s back to business on the pitch, as Rice and his Arsenal teammates continue their push in the Premier League and beyond, with a little musical inspiration now accompanying them behind the scenes.
