A confrontation between two squatters in Costa Adeje, in the south of Tenerife, has left one man seriously injured after being pushed from a height of four metres.
The incident occurred on Sunday at an abandoned and unfinished building near La Caleta, directly across from the local Orthodox church.
According to a police press release, the altercation took place in the upper area of El Veril, a known squatter site that has been occupied for several years by people of various nationalities. The National Police have arrested the suspected aggressor, identified as a Latvian man.
During the dispute, the suspect reportedly pushed the other man, who then fell from a significant height. National Police from the Las Americas station have launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident and to determine whether further charges may apply.
The emergency services were quick to arrive at the scene to provide medical assistance. The injured man suffered a back injury and a head injury, and was subsequently taken to hospital, where he remains under medical supervision.
The derelict site where the incident took place has long been a point of concern for local residents, who have noted the increasing number of squatters in the area. The visibility of the encampments from public roads has raised questions about safety and oversight in these neglected urban spaces.
