When Gabby Logan and her husband Kenny decided to have an open conversation about their marriage and the impact of prostate cancer on intimacy, it was hailed as a brave and important discussion. For their son, professional rugby player Reuben Logan, it was something else entirely, a source of embarrassment that followed him straight into the gym.
Reuben, who recently signed for Sale Sharks after moving from Northampton Saints, has revealed how his parents’ openness left him on the receiving end of plenty of teasing in the changing rooms. The 21-year-old is the son of former Scotland rugby international Kenny Logan and long-time Match of the Day presenter Gabby, both of whom have become respected voices in tackling subjects often left unspoken.
Kenny’s prostate cancer diagnosis in 2022 brought the family closer together, but it also meant confronting the difficult side effects that come with treatment. Speaking openly on Gabby’s podcast The Mid Point, Kenny shared that 76 per cent of men experience erectile dysfunction after prostate surgery. Rather than keeping this conversation private, the couple chose to discuss it publicly in hopes of breaking down stigma and encouraging men to seek help. Their honesty won them praise, with many applauding the pair for addressing a topic that often leaves sufferers in silence.
For Reuben, however, the timing could not have been worse. Reflecting on the fallout, he recalled how a gym session at Northampton Saints turned into a deeply awkward experience. “I will openly say now that I said: ‘Can. You. Please. Stop,’” he told The Telegraph. “I remember being in the gym at Saints and the podcast was being played for half the gym session. It was only my second or third month there!”
The young forward admitted he had no idea his parents had gone into such detail until he heard the podcast being played in front of teammates. “I did not know that that podcast had happened until I had heard it and I remember saying to her: ‘What have you been talking about online?’ She said: ‘It’s good!’ and I said: ‘I’m sure it is but you do have a late-teenage son in a rugby environment, so you have to think about that!’”

Reuben acknowledged that his twin sister Lois, who was at university at the time, might not have been affected in the same way, but for him, it was relentless banter in the changing rooms. “Maybe Lois was not affected at university with her friends but I might have been,” he added.
Despite the awkwardness, there is no doubt that Kenny and Gabby’s willingness to address such issues has had a positive impact on many families, offering reassurance to those going through similar challenges. For Reuben, though, it will always remain one of those moments where family pride and personal embarrassment collided in spectacular fashion.
