Richard E. Grant has shared an emotional moment with fans after visiting the iconic Welsh town of Barry Island, home to the much-loved BBC comedy Gavin & Stacey
The Oscar-nominated actor, 67, is currently working with Ruth Jones, best known as the show's unforgettable Nessa Jenkins, on a new period drama. During a break from filming, Jones gave him a personal tour of the show's legendary filming locations, and for Grant, the experience proved deeply moving.
Taking to Instagram, he posted a touching video of himself walking along Whitmore Bay, the sandy shoreline immortalised in the series. As the waves rolled in behind him, Grant explained why the visit meant so much.
“It’s really emotional to be here,” he said.
“In the last months of my wife’s life, we watched Gavin & Stacey on repeat and it cheered us up endlessly.”
Grant’s beloved wife, Joan Washington, passed away in 2021 after a long battle with lung cancer. The two had been married for 38 years and were widely regarded as one of showbiz’s most enduring couples.
