HARRY AND MEGHAN NAMED HUMANITARIANS OF THE YEAR

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, have been named Humanitarians of the Year at the prestigious Project Healthy Minds mental health gala, held at the glamorous Spring Studios venue in New York.

The event, organised by the non-profit start-up dedicated to promoting mental wellbeing, recognised the couple for their ongoing advocacy and public commitment to issues surrounding mental health, social awareness, and humanitarian causes.

On the organisation’s website, Prince Harry is described as “a humanitarian, mental health advocate, environmentalist, and military combat veteran.” The tribute references his long-standing work on mental health awareness, a mission he began through initiatives such as the Heads Together campaign alongside his brother Prince William and sister-in-law Princess Kate, and his continued efforts since stepping back from royal duties in 2020.

The website also lists several of Harry’s personal projects and partnerships, including his work with BetterUp, the mental health coaching platform where he serves as Chief Impact Officer, and his Archewell Foundation, which he co-founded with Meghan. Interestingly, it also acknowledges his 2021 memoir, Spare, describing it as part of his efforts to raise awareness of trauma and healing, despite the controversy that surrounded its release.

Meghan, meanwhile, is celebrated for her “lifelong advocacy for women and girls,” with her profile on the Project Healthy Minds site describing her as “a mother, wife, entrepreneur, and philanthropist.” The entry highlights how her activism and charity work continue to influence her professional projects, from her leadership within the Archewell Foundation to her support of initiatives focusing on gender equality, education, and mental health awareness.

The couple’s recognition at the gala follows years of public scrutiny since stepping away from royal life. Yet, despite ongoing media attention and criticism, they have consistently maintained their focus on mental health advocacy, community impact, and global humanitarian efforts.

At the event, attendees praised Harry and Meghan for using their platform to speak openly about mental wellbeing and emotional resilience, encouraging others to break the stigma surrounding mental health struggles.

The Duke and Duchess were reportedly among an array of influential guests, philanthropists, and mental health leaders gathered to celebrate individuals and organisations making a difference in the global wellbeing space.

Their joint Archewell Foundation, launched in 2020, has funded numerous initiatives worldwide, including disaster relief projects, digital safety campaigns, and youth mental health programmes.

Since relocating to California, the couple have redefined what modern philanthropy looks like for public figures, blending media, entrepreneurship, and humanitarian work under one shared mission: to make compassion contagious.

This latest accolade adds to a growing list of global honours and partnerships that recognise their impact, including collaborations with the Invictus Games Foundation, World Mental Health Day events, and UN Women initiatives.

While public opinion on Harry and Meghan remains divided, their efforts to reshape the global conversation around mental health and social awareness have earned respect across the humanitarian community.

As Project Healthy Minds described in its closing statement:

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have dedicated their lives to creating a more compassionate and connected world. Their advocacy reminds us that mental health is not just a personal journey, it’s a global responsibility.”
