Harry Styles has received the official go-ahead for an ambitious £30 million mansion project, but the former One Direction star will need to make room for more than just luxury, as environmental demands take centre stage.
The pop superstar, who is reportedly worth around £175 million, plans to transform two listed properties in Hampstead, North London, by knocking them into one sprawling residence. However, in order to preserve local biodiversity, planning permission has come with a long list of conditions focused on protecting wildlife.
According to Barnet Council, Harry must create a haven for native species, including great tits, hedgehogs, bats and insects. The list of required eco-features is extensive and includes installing bat boxes, insect hotels, hedgehog highways and even log piles to encourage biodiversity in the area.
The council has also set a firm deadline. If the work doesn’t commence by May, Styles will be required to carry out costly environmental surveys again to ensure his plans do not disturb any protected species that may have since moved in.
Despite the eco-hurdles, the vision for the property is nothing short of extravagant. Plans include a luxurious master suite with not one, but four dressing rooms, alongside a private lounge, gallery space, and an indoor patio, all designed to fit the singer’s signature style and eye for understated glamour.
The project is expected to turn heads in the leafy Hampstead enclave, an area known for its celebrity residents and historic architecture. It also reflects the increasing pressure high-profile homeowners are under to meet environmental standards when developing or refurbishing properties, particularly in protected or conservation areas.
Styles, who has built a reputation not just as a global music icon but also as a fashion-forward and socially conscious figure, now finds himself taking on the role of eco-developer too. While the extravagant renovations will no doubt make headlines, it's the cohabitation with local bats and hedgehogs that’s likely to catch attention among conservationists.
With this green light from the council, all eyes will be on whether Styles can meet the May deadline and pull off a property transformation that balances A-list living with a strong commitment to wildlife preservation.
One thing’s for sure, Harry’s house will be home to more than just pop royalty.
