Hollyoaks Star Steph Waring Retrains in ‘Normal Job’ After Shock Exit

Hollyoaks veteran Steph Waring has opened up about a major career change after being dropped from the long-running soap in a surprise cast shake-up. The actress, who played Cindy Cunningham from as far back as 1996, has revealed she’s retrained as a life coach following her departure.

Waring was one of several cast members cut during a mass overhaul of the Channel 4 soap last year, ending her near three-decade run on the show. Since then, she’s wasted no time in stepping into a new chapter, although she admits her heart still lies in acting.

Sharing her journey with fans on social media, she spoke candidly about the shift in identity that’s come with leaving the industry she’s known for 30 years. “Someone asked me a question yesterday and it was ‘what work do you do?’ And I thought, good point. What work do I do? The first thing that came to my head was, I’m an actor,” she said.

Now qualified as a life coach, Waring is channelling her energy into helping others, though she admits that nothing will ever compare to her time on screen. “I do have days where I’m sad and I miss it… I am 100% focused on [life coaching], I’m passionate about it, but it won’t ever come close to my passion of being an actor,” she explained.

Her honesty has struck a chord with fans who’ve followed her journey as one of Hollyoaks’ most iconic and enduring characters. As Cindy Cunningham, Waring was known for delivering drama, humour, and emotional depth, qualities that have earned her a loyal fanbase across generations.

While her exit from Hollyoaks may have closed one door, Steph Waring is proving that reinvention is always possible, even after nearly 30 years in the same role. Whether she returns to the screen or carves out a new path entirely, her next chapter is already well underway.
