JASON DONOVAN JOINS EMMERDALE FOR A SURPRISE CHRISTMAS CAMEO

Soap fans are in for a festive treat this Christmas as Emmerdale is reportedly set to welcome Australian TV icon Jason Donovan for a special cameo appearance.

The Neighbours legend, who rose to fame in the 1980s as Scott Robinson alongside Kylie Minogue’s Charlene Mitchell, has secretly filmed scenes for the ITV soap, and will appear as himself in a light-hearted storyline that’s sure to bring some Christmas cheer to the village.

According to reports, Jason travelled to the show’s Yorkshire set earlier this month to film the cameo, which sees him walk into the iconic Woolpack pub to surprise devoted fan Lydia Dingle, played by Karen Blick.

A source told The Sun: “Everyone was really excited Jason was up for taking part. It was really fun and Jason was a real pro, he enjoyed the cameo and got on brilliantly with the cast and crew.”

The storyline, expected to air in the run-up to Christmas, is set to show Lydia devastated after missing her chance to see Jason perform live. But in true Emmerdale fashion, the villagers will rally together to arrange an unforgettable surprise, leading to Jason’s unannounced arrival in the Dales.

While details of the exact scenes are being kept under wraps, those who were on set say Jason was in great spirits, laughing and joking with the cast in between takes. His appearance is said to be a “thank you” to long-time fans who’ve followed his career from Neighbours to the West End and beyond.

Jason, now 57, has enjoyed a remarkable career spanning more than three decades. After becoming one of the biggest teen idols of the 1980s thanks to Neighbours and his chart-topping duets with Kylie Minogue, he went on to achieve huge success as a solo artist with hits like Too Many Broken Hearts and Sealed With a Kiss.

In recent years, he’s focused on stage work, starring in major productions including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, and Grease the Musical. He’s also been a popular presence on British television, appearing in I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! and Dancing on Ice.

This special Emmerdale appearance marks Jason’s first scripted TV cameo in years and is expected to be one of the highlights of the soap’s Christmas season.

ITV bosses are reportedly thrilled to have landed the Australian star, who remains hugely popular with viewers, particularly those who grew up watching him on Neighbours. Fans of both soaps will no doubt be delighted to see a familiar face from Ramsay Street turn up in the Dales, even if just for one episode.

With the festive period traditionally one of Emmerdale’s most-watched times of the year, Jason’s cameo is expected to draw in a wave of nostalgic viewers, eager to see the legendary performer step behind the Woolpack bar for a pint and a few surprises.

As one insider put it: “It’s the perfect bit of Christmas magic, Jason Donovan in Emmerdale! Who would have thought it?”
