The 30-year-old Canadian singer shocked staff and customers at the Bird and Bear pub when he casually turned up on Saturday evening before asking if he could use the venue’s adjoining nightclub, Abandon Ship, which was closed at the time.
Manager Rai Wright revealed that Bieber “literally just walked in like a guy off the street” around 7pm, catching everyone completely off guard. She said: “We were all standing at the bar and he just asked, ‘Is there any way we can get some DJ decks in here?’ It was surreal. If you’d asked me if I recognised him, I’d say yes and no, it was the hat! It’s not something you see in Dundee often.”
Rai explained that after realising it really was the global megastar in front of her, she agreed to open up the nightclub so Bieber could film part of his new music video. He reportedly ordered pints of Guinness, did shots of whisky, and even joined in drinking games with the small group of people accompanying him.

Earlier in the day, Bieber had already turned heads in St Andrews, where he popped into the popular Cromars Fish and Chips restaurant for a casual meal and a beer. Diners were stunned when he appeared at the bar wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses, posing for a few quick photos before heading off to Dundee.
Just hours later, Bieber posted the finished music video for Bad Honey online, confirming that several scenes had indeed been shot inside Abandon Ship nightclub. The video quickly went viral, with fans spotting familiar Dundee landmarks and praising the singer for highlighting local venues in such a spontaneous and down-to-earth way.
One fan commented, “Only Justin could turn a Dundee pub into a Hollywood set, he looks so chilled and happy,” while another added, “This is the most random and brilliant thing he’s ever done.”

Rai said that since the filming, the reaction has been “unreal,” with curious fans visiting the bar to ask about his visit. “People are coming in just to see where he sat and what he drank,” she laughed. “It’s been great for the city and for us, it’s not every day Justin Bieber walks through your door.”
The release of Bad Honey marks Bieber’s first major solo project in over a year and has already sparked rumours of a new album and possibly a 2026 world tour.
For now, Dundee can proudly say it played a surprise part in pop music history, and for one unforgettable Saturday night, Justin Bieber was just another guy enjoying a pint in Scotland.
