Kelly Clarkson left fans heartbroken on Thursday night as she cancelled the opening two shows of her Las Vegas residency just 90 minutes before curtain up.
The 42-year-old Grammy winner, who has been preparing for her Studio Sessions residency at Caesars Palace, posted a candid statement to Instagram explaining her decision and apologising to fans.
“I am beyond grateful that you always show up for me and I am devastated to have to postpone tonight and tomorrow's opening at Caesars,” she wrote, adding that weeks of intensive rehearsals had taken a toll on her voice.
Kelly explained that after pushing herself to perfect the intimate show experience, she realised she risked doing “serious damage” to her vocal cords if she tried to power through the opening nights.
“We have been working 24/7 to make Studio Sessions the most intimate and extraordinary experience with and for my incredible fans,” she continued. “But the prep and rehearsals have taken a toll on my voice, and I need to protect it if I’m going to give you the shows you deserve.”

Fans who had travelled to Las Vegas were understandably disappointed, but many flooded her Instagram with supportive messages. “Take care of your instrument first,” wrote one fan. Another added: “We love you Kelly! Get well soon!”
Kelly has not yet announced new dates for the postponed shows, but reassured ticket holders that updates will be coming soon and urged them to hold onto their tickets.
The Since U Been Gone singer has always been open about the demands of her craft, recently telling Billboard that the Caesars residency was designed to showcase her voice in its purest, most emotional form.
“Every song on this setlist means something very personal,” she said. “That’s why I called it Studio Sessions, it’s supposed to feel like you’re in the room with me while I’m recording.”
Despite the setback, fans remain eager to see her return to the stage once her voice has healed. Clarkson concluded her post by saying: “I promise we’ll make it up to you.”
For now, Clarkson is taking doctors’ advice and resting, determined to deliver the unforgettable experience her loyal fan base has come to expect.
