It has been over a decade since Leona Lewis last released a studio album, but now the wait is almost over.
The 39-year-old singer, who captured the nation’s heart in 2006 when she became the third winner of The X Factor, has revealed she is working on her first album in 11 years, due for release in 2026. And this time, it will be unlike anything she has ever done before.
Speaking at an intimate Q&A event at 180 House in London, Leona shared that she is taking full creative control over the project.
“I’ve been in the studio since last year now,” she said. “I’m pretty deep in the process and I’m producing everything, writing everything, so it’s very new territory for me.”
In a bold move that reflects her dedication and artistry, Leona is not only writing and producing every track but also playing the instruments herself.
“It means that it’s very unfiltered. It’s very raw,” she explained. “I taught myself to play the bass. I’m playing bass on stuff. I taught myself to play the drums. I’m playing drums on stuff. Just to hear a song that is literally all you, it feels really good. It feels so genuine and real.”
Leona’s last studio album, I Am, was released in 2015. While she has released singles and performed extensively since then, fans have long awaited a full-length project, and the timing of this one is particularly special. 2026 will mark 20 years since her life-changing X Factor victory, which catapulted her to global fame with her debut hit A Moment Like This and her record-breaking single Bleeding Love.
The announcement comes as Leona prepares for another career milestone: her debut Las Vegas residency. She will be headlining at the exclusive Voltaire venue from November to early January, promising a glamorous and intimate run of performances for her fans.
For Leona, this new album is not just a return to music but a deeply personal project. By taking on every aspect of the creative process, she’s ensuring the finished work is truly her own voice, both literally and musically.
Fans who have followed her journey from shy reality TV contestant to international star are no doubt eagerly anticipating what will be her most authentic body of work to date.
And if Leona’s track record is anything to go by, this long-awaited comeback could well be worth every single one of the 11 years we’ve been waiting.
