Liam Gallagher has taken a swipe at Coldplay after the band sparked global headlines for exposing a cheating couple during one of their concerts.
The Oasis frontman, 52, used his trademark wit to reassure fans at his recent Heaton Park show in Manchester that there would be no repeat of Coldplay’s “snidey camera” antics at an Oasis gig, and made it clear he doesn’t care who his fans turn up with.
The controversy erupted last Thursday during Coldplay’s gig at Boston’s Gillette Stadium, where audience cameras caught former software CEO Andy Byron with his arms around his company’s chief people officer Kristin Cabot. The moment went viral and quickly snowballed into a scandal, with Byron resigning from his billion-dollar firm on Saturday following a social media storm.
Not one to miss an opportunity to needle his musical rivals, Liam addressed the saga on stage, telling the crowd:
“Right then, do we have any love birds in the house? Don’t worry we ain’t got any of that Coldplay snidey camera sh*t. Doesn’t matter to us who you’re mingling with, or tingly with, fing****g with, none of our business.”
The comment drew huge cheers and laughter from the Manchester crowd, with many praising Liam for sticking to his no-nonsense, “fans first” attitude.
Liam’s comment comes amid ongoing friction between Oasis and Coldplay fans over the years, with Gallagher often taking playful digs at Chris Martin and his band’s style. While Coldplay have embraced sentimental, polished shows complete with light-up wristbands and big-screen moments, Liam has long championed Oasis gigs as a place to simply enjoy the music without unnecessary gimmicks.
Fans online were quick to back Liam’s comments, with one writing on X “This is why Liam is the GOAT. He’s right, you go to a gig for the music, not to get stitched up on the big screen.”
Another added: “Classic Liam. He’s got a point though, who you’re with is nobody else’s business.”
It’s not the first time Liam has made headlines this summer, as Oasis’ much-hyped anniversary shows have been packing out stadiums across the UK, with fans clamouring for a potential full band reunion down the line. Whether that happens or not, one thing’s for sure, if you’re cheating on your partner, you’re safer at an Oasis gig than in Coldplay’s spotlight.
