Fresh off the global success of Barbie, Margot Robbie is reportedly in discussions to take on a very different kind of role, in a Tim Burton-directed remake of the 1958 sci-fi horror classic Attack of the 50 Foot Woman.
According to The Insneider, the Oscar-nominated actress is not only being eyed for the lead role in the film, but will also serve as producer through her LuckyChap Entertainment company, the same production house behind Barbie, Promising Young Woman, and Saltburn.
The upcoming project marks a return to the dark and quirky world of filmmaker Tim Burton, 66, known for his iconic and stylised work on films like Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, Sweeney Todd, and Alice in Wonderland.
A Classic Reimagined
Originally released in 1958, Attack of the 50 Foot Woman has become a cult favourite over the decades. The film centres around Nancy Archer, a wealthy but troubled heiress whose life changes forever after a close encounter with an alien spacecraft. Following the incident, she begins to grow to enormous proportions, and soon takes revenge on her philandering husband and those who wronged her.
Burton is set to direct and produce the remake for Warner Bros., with Gillian Flynn, the bestselling author of Gone Girl and screenwriter of Widows, attached to write the screenplay, adding a potential layer of psychological depth to the narrative.

Robbie’s Post-Barbie Pivot
Margot Robbie has become one of the most in-demand actresses in Hollywood, balancing commercial blockbusters with more daring, artistic projects. After Barbie’s billion-dollar box office success in 2023, the Australian star is looking to expand her repertoire with more producer-driven vehicles, and Attack of the 50 Foot Woman could be a perfect blend of camp, feminism, and fun.
A source close to the project said: “Margot is drawn to roles that challenge stereotypes, and this one flips the ‘damsel in distress’ trope on its head. Combine that with Burton’s dark humour and Gillian Flynn’s sharp writing, and you’ve got something really special in the works.”

Burton’s Latest Vision
Tim Burton has been relatively quiet since Wednesday, the Netflix series he executive produced, became a surprise hit. The Attack of the 50 Foot Woman remake would be his first feature film since 2019’s Dumbo. With Flynn on board, audiences can expect a more modern, nuanced version of the original’s story of female rage and empowerment.
Casting discussions are ongoing, and no official release date has been announced. But the buzz is already building.
