RAYE proved yet again why she’s one of Britain’s most relatable and raw talents when she broke down in tears after performing Ice Cream Man at a festival in Poland.
The BRIT Award-winning singer took to the stage as part of her European festival run and delivered an unforgettable set, but it was her performance of the hauntingly honest ballad Ice Cream Man that struck a chord with both her and the audience.
The song, featured on her critically acclaimed debut album My 21st Century Blues, explores RAYE’s own experience with sexual assault and the emotional scars it left behind. Since its release, it has resonated with thousands of fans, praised for its vulnerability and courage.
After finishing the song in Poland, RAYE visibly wiped away tears, telling the crowd:
“That is the hardest song I’ve ever written. Every time I sing it, it takes me right back. But sharing it with you all makes me feel less alone.”
Fans in the crowd responded with applause and shouts of support, with some holding up signs thanking her for her honesty and bravery. Many shared clips of the moving moment on social media, where it quickly went viral with messages like “We love you, RAYE!” and “You’re helping so many people by sharing your story.”

The London-born singer, 26, has had a whirlwind 18 months, bouncing back from label struggles to independent success. Earlier this year, she made history at the BRITs by becoming the most awarded artist in a single night, taking home four trophies including Best Album and Best Artist.
Speaking previously about Ice Cream Man, RAYE said:
“That was a really hard day in the studio. I didn’t even know if I should write it, let alone release it. But I’ve learned that sharing your pain can help heal not just yourself, but others too.”
RAYE is due to continue her festival tour this summer, with appearances in Spain, Germany and back home in the UK, where she’s set to headline London’s All Points East in August.
