RIP: HULK HOGAN DEAD AT 71

Wrestling legend Hulk Hogan, one of the most recognisable and influential figures in the history of professional wrestling, has died at the age of 71

The former WWE champion, real name Terry Bollea, reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest at his home in Clearwater, Florida, prompting emergency services to be dispatched. His tragic passing comes just weeks after his wife, Sky, publicly denied rumours that the superstar had fallen into a coma, following ongoing concern over his health.

Born on August 11, 1953, in Augusta, Georgia, Hogan was a wrestling powerhouse who became a household name during the 1980s and 1990s, thanks to his incredible charisma, massive frame, and unforgettable presence inside (and outside) the ring.

Hogan began his wrestling journey in 1977, quickly earning attention for his commanding size and energy. But it was a fortuitous television appearance that would cement his iconic persona. While appearing on a chat show alongside Lou Ferrigno, star of The Incredible Hulk, it was noted that Terry actually dwarfed Ferrigno, giving birth to the moniker "Hulk Hogan".

After stints in Japan and regional promotions, Hogan returned to what was then known as the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) as a showpiece signing. His rise was meteoric, and it wasn’t long before "Hulkamania" became a full-blown cultural phenomenon.

His larger-than-life personality, patriotic promos, and catchphrases like “Say your prayers and eat your vitamins” inspired millions. His feuds with the likes of Andre the Giant, Randy Savage, and The Ultimate Warrior became the stuff of legend.

Throughout the 1980s and early '90s, Hogan helped catapult wrestling from niche sport to global entertainment juggernaut. He headlined eight WrestleMania events, starred in Hollywood films like No Holds Barred and Suburban Commando, and even launched a reality TV career in the 2000s with Hogan Knows Best.

His career saw a resurgence in WCW, where he turned heel and formed the legendary New World Order (nWo) faction, a moment that redefined wrestling storytelling and proved he could still command headlines.

A statement from World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) on X confirmed the news:

"WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away. One of pop culture’s most recognisable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s. WWE extends its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and fans."

Hogan had recently undergone a neck fusion surgery in May, described as a "minor procedure", but fans speculated about his condition after limited public appearances. Despite this, his presence on social media remained strong, often sharing motivational posts and reflections on his legacy.

While controversies and personal challenges followed Hogan in his later years, his impact on professional wrestling and pop culture is undeniable. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame twice, as a solo performer and as a member of the nWo.

Hogan is survived by his wife, Sky, and his children, Brooke and Nick. Fans around the world are mourning a man whose larger-than-life presence shaped an entire generation.

Rest in power, Hulkster. 💛❤️
