Pop legend Robbie Williams has been forced to postpone his highly anticipated final gig in Istanbul, Turkey, after city authorities cancelled the event over terrorism-related safety fears.
The Angels singer, who was set to wrap up his acclaimed BRITPOP Tour, took to Instagram on Saturday to share the disappointing news with fans, explaining that the decision was completely out of his hands.
In a heartfelt post, Robbie wrote:
“I’m extremely sorry that I will not be able to perform in Istanbul next week. City authorities have cancelled the show in the interests of public safety. The last thing I would ever want to do is to jeopardise the safety of my fans, their safety and security come first.”
The former Take That frontman had chosen Istanbul as the grand finale of his 2025 tour, a symbolic stop marking his first-ever solo performance in the city. Fans from across Europe and the Middle East had travelled to see the star in what was set to be an electrifying end to his tour.
However, reports suggest heightened security concerns in the region led officials to intervene. While neither Robbie’s team nor local authorities have specified the exact nature of the threat, Turkish media outlets have cited “credible intelligence” suggesting potential risks around large-scale public events.
A spokesperson for the concert venue said:
“We understand the disappointment this will cause to thousands of fans, but safety must remain the top priority. We hope to welcome Robbie Williams to Istanbul in the future under safer circumstances.”
The decision comes as a major blow to both Robbie and his team, who had been preparing an elaborate stage setup and special setlist to mark the occasion. Sources close to the star say he was “gutted” by the turn of events but fully supported the decision to prioritise safety.
Fans flooded social media with messages of support and sympathy. One commented, “Totally understand, Robbie, your fans’ safety comes first. We’ll be waiting for you in Istanbul when it’s safe.” Another added, “It’s heartbreaking, but thank you for caring about us.”
Despite the setback, Robbie’s management has confirmed they are working to reschedule the Istanbul date when conditions allow. Refunds for ticket holders are being processed through official outlets, with further updates expected in the coming weeks.
The BRITPOP Tour has been one of Robbie’s most successful in years, celebrating his iconic solo career with a nostalgic setlist of hits including Let Me Entertain You, Rock DJ, and Angels. The Istanbul show was meant to close the tour with a spectacular finale, one that fans now hope will still happen, just a little later than planned.
