RYAN REYNOLDS AND ROB MCELHENNEY PLAN TO REVIVE WREXHAM’S ICONIC LAGER

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are once again raising the bar for Wrexham, quite literally, with plans to revive the town’s iconic beer, Wrexham Lager, by building a brand-new super brewery and visitor centre beside the football club’s Racecourse Ground.

The Hollywood stars, who famously bought Wrexham AFC in 2020 and turned the struggling football club into one of the most inspiring sports success stories of the decade, have now submitted a planning application to Wrexham County Borough Council for what promises to be another major investment in the city.

The proposed project would see the creation of a state-of-the-art brewery, taproom, and visitor attraction, designed to celebrate Wrexham’s proud brewing history and cement the town’s growing status as a global destination.

Reynolds and McElhenney’s plans are the latest in a string of developments transforming the North Wales city. Since their takeover of Wrexham AFC, the club has enjoyed a meteoric rise, climbing from the National League to the second tier of English football, a feat that has captured worldwide attention.

Their Disney+ documentary series, Welcome to Wrexham, has turned the once modest Welsh club into an international phenomenon, drawing tourists from all over the world. Visitor numbers have reportedly soared to two million per year, bringing millions of pounds into the local economy.

Now, with the proposed brewery project, the duo are hoping to give Wrexham another boost, this time by reviving one of its most famous exports.

Wrexham Lager, often hailed as one of the oldest lagers in the world, was first brewed in 1882 and has a history steeped in local pride. It was even famously served aboard the Titanic before its tragic voyage in 1912.

Speaking about their latest venture, a spokesperson for the project said the new development aims to “provide an attractive welcome to the city of Wrexham” while celebrating its industrial and cultural heritage.

The application outlines plans for a large-scale brewery facility complete with a visitor centre, bar, and event space, combining local tradition with modern sustainability.

The development will also create jobs and generate significant footfall for local businesses, complementing the ongoing regeneration around the Racecourse Ground.

Fans and locals have already voiced their excitement on social media, with one commenting:

“They’ve saved the club, put Wrexham on the map, and now they’re bringing back the beer. These two can do no wrong!”

Another added:

“It’s incredible how much Ryan and Rob have done for this city, first football, now lager. Wrexham’s future looks brighter than ever.”

Since their arrival, Reynolds and McElhenney have been praised not just for their financial investment, but for their genuine affection for Wrexham and its people.

Their heartfelt approach to ownership has resonated deeply with fans, and this new project proves that their commitment extends far beyond the pitch.

If approved, the Wrexham Lager super brewery could begin construction as early as 2026, ensuring the city’s proud brewing heritage is celebrated and enjoyed by future generations.

From football to film, and now from pints to pride, it seems there’s no stopping the Hollywood duo from turning Wrexham into a world-class success story, one goal, and one glass, at a time.
