Much-loved presenter Rylan Clark has shared a reassuring health update about his mum Linda, following her sudden hospitalisation earlier this week.
The 35-year-old former X Factor star revealed on Friday that he would be stepping back from his regular BBC Radio 2 show to stay by his mother’s side as she was rushed to the emergency department at Princess Alexandra Hospital.
At the time, Rylan posted a heartfelt message to fans on social media:
“Mummy Linda isn’t well sadly so I won’t be hosting the show tomorrow. Thank you to the emergency team at Princess Alexandra Hospital. Will keep you updated as she’s on the mend. She’s a trooper.”
Linda, 71, who has become a firm fan favourite through her appearances alongside Rylan on Celebrity Gogglebox, has struggled with various health conditions in recent years, making the news particularly worrying for her many supporters.
Thankfully, Rylan delivered happier news today (Monday), confirming that Linda is doing much better and could even be home in time to celebrate her birthday.
Taking to Instagram, Rylan wrote: “She’s all good. Hoping she will be home for her birthday. She’s now worried about the wheelie bins going out again.”
The cheeky aside about her bins quickly won over his followers, who praised Linda’s down-to-earth humour and resilience even in the face of ill health.
Rylan has often spoken about his close bond with his mum, describing her as his best friend and confidante. The pair became one of the most loved duos on Channel 4’s Gogglebox, entertaining viewers with their hilarious banter and frank conversations from their sofa.
Linda has battled a number of health problems over the years, including Crohn’s disease and arthritis, which have occasionally left her housebound and in pain. Rylan has been open about how these challenges have affected both of them emotionally and has previously called her his “rock” during his own struggles with mental health.
Fans flooded Rylan’s posts over the weekend with messages of love and support, sending well-wishes for Linda’s speedy recovery. One fan commented: “She really is a trooper, hope she’s back to full strength soon, she always makes me smile on the telly!” while another added: “Bless her, worrying about the bins shows she’s getting back to her old self. Happy birthday, Linda!”
It’s not yet known whether Rylan will return to his Radio 2 show next weekend, but his latest update will bring relief to the many who’ve been keeping Linda in their thoughts.
