TV personality Rylan Clark has opened up about the challenges of keeping his Doctor Who role a secret ahead of his upcoming appearance on the hit BBC series. The beloved presenter is set to appear as the host of a fictional Interstellar Song Contest, a galactic twist on the Eurovision Song Contest.
The much-anticipated episode is set to air this Saturday, just hours before the real Eurovision final in Basel, Switzerland. Despite news of his involvement being announced two months ago, Rylan revealed that he has been holding onto the secret for nearly a year.
"It was so hard to keep the secret, and I've been sat on it for a year," Rylan admitted in an interview with PA News Agency. The star shared that while he had to inform a few "key" individuals, he made a strong effort to keep details of his role under wraps.
In the special episode, Rylan will play a version of himself, but with a unique twist. He explained that he drew inspiration from Caesar Flickerman, the flamboyant host portrayed by Stanley Tucci in The Hunger Games film series. Known for his eccentric style and larger-than-life personality, Caesar is a memorable character who interviews tributes and provides dramatic commentary during the brutal competition.
"I played myself but also added a bit of Caesar from The Hunger Games for good measure," Rylan shared, hinting at the character’s mix of charm and theatrical flair.
Rylan teased that fans should expect plenty of surprises in the upcoming episode. "Expect the unexpected, it's probably the most twisty one of the whole season," he added.
