Simon Cowell has revealed the reason behind his mysterious absence from the latest Britain’s Got Talent auditions, after suffering yet another unexpected accident.
The BGT judge, who is no stranger to injuries and on-set surprises, missed the first two days of filming for the Birmingham auditions earlier this month after taking a tumble down a flight of steps.
The 65-year-old TV mogul was absent as guest judge Stacey Solomon stepped in to fill his spot temporarily, sitting alongside regular panellists Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and Bruno Tonioli. When Simon returned to the panel on the third day, fans noticed a fresh graze on his forehead, but the music boss simply told reporters he’d had “an accident,” without giving further details at the time.
Now, Simon has finally revealed the truth, in typically light-hearted fashion, while speaking during the Blackpool auditions.
When a choir made up of NHS ambulance workers took to the stage at the Winter Gardens, Amanda Holden couldn’t resist a cheeky dig at her co-star, saying:
“I thought they might be here in case anything went wrong with you again because you were poorly last week.”
Laughing, Simon took the good-natured comment in his stride and admitted:
“I fell down some steps, that wasn’t poorly! I bumped my head, but I’m fine now. I wish you had been around a couple of weeks ago when I actually bashed my head. Seriously, no one sang for me then!”
The audience erupted into laughter, clearly amused by Simon’s dry wit and his tendency to brush off mishaps with humour.
A show insider later told The Mirror:
“Simon bumped his head when he stumbled on some steps. It’s the sort of thing that can happen to anyone. And thankfully, he’s absolutely fine now.”
It’s not the first time Simon has made headlines for an accident. Back in 2017, the X Factor creator was rushed to hospital after fainting and falling down the stairs at his London home due to low blood pressure. In 2020 and 2022, he also suffered serious injuries from two separate e-bike crashes, incidents that led to surgery and months of recovery.

Fans were quick to express relief on social media after hearing Simon was okay this time around. One wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
“Only Simon could fall down the stairs again and still show up to judge with a smile. The man’s indestructible.”
Another added: “Stacey Solomon filled in brilliantly, but it’s just not Britain’s Got Talent without Simon’s sarcasm and those famous eye-rolls.”
Simon has since resumed full filming duties as the BGT team travels around the UK for the latest round of auditions ahead of the highly anticipated 2025 series.
Despite his occasional scrapes, Simon’s passion for discovering new talent clearly remains undimmed. Sources close to the production say he has been “on great form” since returning to the panel, joking with contestants and even poking fun at himself.
One audience member at the Blackpool auditions shared: “He’s back to his cheeky self. When someone tripped on stage, he shouted, ‘Don’t do what I did!’ and everyone burst out laughing.”
With the new series expected to air on ITV in the spring, fans can look forward to the usual mix of incredible acts, emotional performances, and Simon’s trademark blend of honesty and humour, hopefully without any more trips or tumbles along the way.
