Sir Elton John has spoken candidly about the frightening and emotional battle he has been facing with his eyesight, revealing that the last 15 months have been among the most challenging of his life. The iconic musician, known for his larger-than-life stage presence, countless hits and unmatched legacy, admitted in a new interview that his deteriorating vision has left him “devastated”.

Now, speaking to Variety, Elton revealed just how significantly his life has been affected. “Because I lost my right eye and my left eye’s not so good, the last 15 months have been challenging for me because I haven’t been able to see anything, watch anything, read anything,” he explained. “I’ve had the most incredible life, and there is hope,” he shared. “I’ve just gotta be patient that someday science will help me with this one. Once they help me with this one, I’ll be fine.”
He drew parallels between his current health battle and the HIV/AIDS crisis, a cause he has championed for decades through the Elton John AIDS Foundation. “It’s exactly like the AIDS situation,” he said. “You mustn’t give up hope, you must be stoic, you must be strong and you must always try and batter the door down to try and improve things.”
