Scarlett Johansson has officially become Hollywood’s most bankable lead actor, following the roaring success of her latest blockbuster, Jurassic World: Rebirth.
The new film, which opened in cinemas last week, sees Johansson step into the Jurassic franchise as covert-ops specialist Zora Bennett, tasked with leading an expedition to an island where dangerous dinosaur experiments once took place.
Audiences have flocked to see the next chapter of the much-loved dinosaur saga, with the sequel already raking in a staggering $318 million (£233 million) worldwide at the box office.
This impressive opening has also pushed Johansson into a league of her own, with career box office takings of $14.8 billion (£10.8 billion) in lead or ensemble roles, according to box office tracking site The Numbers. This remarkable figure makes her the highest-grossing lead actor of all time, overtaking even her Marvel colleagues Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Downey Jr., and Chris Pratt (who himself starred in the earlier Jurassic World films).
Johansson’s dominance comes as no surprise to her fans. The Oscar-nominated actress has headlined countless hits over the years, from her decade-long portrayal of Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, in the Avengers saga to critically acclaimed roles in films like Marriage Story and Lucy.
Speaking about her latest role in Jurassic World: Rebirth, Johansson said she was drawn to the idea of playing a character who is both vulnerable and fearless in a world of prehistoric chaos. “It’s an iconic franchise, and to bring a fresh perspective with a strong female lead was really exciting for me,” she told reporters at the film’s premiere.

Fans and industry insiders alike have praised Johansson for her versatility and longevity in a notoriously fickle business. At just 39 years old, she shows no signs of slowing down.
With more projects already lined up for the next year, Scarlett Johansson has proved once again why she’s one of the most dependable, and bankable, stars in Hollywood history.
