Four-time Formula 1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel has revealed the surprising reason he won’t be making a return to the track; his children won’t let him.
The former Ferrari and Red Bull star, who retired from Formula 1 in 2022 after two seasons with Aston Martin, says that any thoughts of a racing comeback have been firmly shut down at home. Speaking to Sky Sports Germany F1, the 36-year-old explained that his kids have laid down the law.
“My kids told me I’m not allowed to race anymore because they like me so much,” Vettel said, with a smile. “It’s wonderful to hear that.”
Vettel, who has three children, daughters Emilie, 11, Mathilda, 9, and a younger son, with wife Hanna Prater, added that life away from racing has brought him a sense of peace and fulfilment he hadn’t expected.
“Family harmony still exists. I’ve learned a lot about myself during this time. I’m very content, and I don’t get bored,” he continued.
Vettel, known for his sharp wit and fierce competitiveness on the track, retired with 53 Grand Prix wins and a legendary four-title streak from 2010 to 2013 during his dominant years with Red Bull Racing. Though fans have speculated about a potential return, especially given recent comebacks from other drivers, the German icon appears truly at ease in the slower lane of family life.
And with the next generation clearly calling the shots, it seems a Vettel F1 comeback is off the table, unless his kids change their minds.
While Vettel may be watching from the sidelines these days, fans can take comfort in knowing that one of the sport’s greats has traded podiums and pit stops for playgrounds and peace at home.
