The Stranger Things universe is about to get even stranger, and this time, it’s going animated. Netflix has officially unveiled the title of its upcoming spin-off series: Stranger Things: Tales From ‘85. The new show is currently in development and promises to offer a fresh take on the beloved sci-fi world that has captivated audiences since 2016.
While plot details remain tightly under wraps, the series is set in the same eerie universe as the original show, taking viewers back to the neon-soaked nostalgia of 1985. Fans can expect a return to the era of arcade games, mixtapes, and supernatural mayhem, this time, with a bold, animated twist.
The project is being brought to life by some of the biggest names behind the Stranger Things phenomenon. Creators Matt and Ross Duffer are on board as executive producers, alongside longtime collaborator and director Shawn Levy, whose recent work includes the highly anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine. Their involvement is a clear signal that Tales From ‘85 will retain the tone, creativity, and heart that have made Stranger Things a global sensation.
In a statement shared via Netflix’s Tudum, the Duffer brothers revealed their excitement for the spin-off’s unique approach. “We’ve always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving,” they said. “To see this dream realised has been absolutely thrilling.”
Though fans are eager to know more, Netflix has not yet announced who will voice the animated characters or whether familiar faces from Hawkins will make an appearance. However, the title Tales From ‘85 suggests a wider exploration of the Stranger Things mythos, potentially introducing new characters and untold stories that run parallel to or intersect with the main storyline.
With the flagship series preparing for its fifth and final season, Tales From ‘85 signals Netflix’s commitment to expanding the Stranger Things brand beyond the original cast.
