The Ivors: Lola Young and Charli XCX Lead Star-Studded Nominee List

The spotlight is shining brightly on British songwriting talent as the nominations for the 2025 Ivor Novello Awards have been announced, with Lola Young and Charli XCX emerging as standout contenders in a year that marks the prestigious ceremony’s 70th anniversary.

Over 70 songwriters have earned nominations across eight highly competitive categories, which include Best Album, Best Contemporary Song, and the Rising Star Award with Amazon Music. The Ivors, often described as the ultimate recognition for songwriters and composers in the UK and Ireland, will return to the glamorous setting of Grosvenor House in London on May 22.

In her first ever year of recognition by The Ivors Academy, singer-songwriter Lola Young has taken the lead with an impressive three nominations. This meteoric rise underlines her growing influence in the music scene, with nods in several major categories including Best Album for her critically acclaimed release This Wasn’t Meant For You Anyway. Collaborator Conor Dickinson, who contributed to the album’s production and songwriting, also earned two nominations of his own, cementing the record as one of this year’s creative powerhouses.

Joining Young at the top of the leaderboard are celebrated artists RAYE and Ghetts, each scoring two nominations. RAYE, who swept the board last year as Songwriter of the Year, continues her winning streak with more recognition for her bold and boundary-pushing lyrics. Ghetts, known for his lyrical precision and thought-provoking storytelling, is in contention once again, this time including a Best Album nomination for On Purpose, With Purpose.

Pop provocateur Charli XCX also stands tall among the year’s most celebrated names. Her genre-bending record Brat is nominated for Best Album, solidifying her reputation as a fearless innovator in mainstream music. She’ll face off against a diverse mix of fellow nominees including BERWYN’s Who Am I, Jordan Rakei’s The Loop, and Lola Young’s aforementioned debut.

This year’s ceremony promises not only to celebrate songwriting excellence but to honour the legacy of The Ivors across seven decades. With Amazon Music returning as a key partner, and the awards spotlighting emerging voices alongside established icons, the 2025 Ivors are shaping up to be one of the most exciting and forward-thinking editions yet.

As the countdown to May 22 begins, all eyes will be on the artists who have turned personal stories into powerful songs, and who now stand on the cusp of claiming one of the industry’s most coveted honours.
