ITV’s reboot of the classic game show You Bet! faced unexpected drama over the weekend, and it wasn’t from the contestants. Filming for the highly anticipated new series, hosted by Stephen Mulhern, was suspended after a vehicle fire broke out on set, resulting in what witnesses described as “total carnage.”
According to reports, the blaze began unexpectedly from a parked car during the filming of a special Emmerdale-themed episode. The fire quickly spread to nearby crew vans loaded with props and production equipment, causing tens of thousands of pounds worth of damage and triggering an emergency response.
Two fire engines were dispatched to the scene to battle the flames. Miraculously, no injuries were reported, but the incident has forced production to pause indefinitely while ITV investigates the full extent of the damage.
“The blaze just started from a random vehicle,” one eyewitness told the Daily Mail, “and then resulted in vans used by the crew also going up in flames. There was obvious panic, and it’s a miracle nobody was harmed.”
The incident reportedly left the set in disarray, with charred equipment and smoke damage visible across the outdoor location. Production insiders have described the scene as “shocking,” with staff and crew members visibly shaken.
Mulhern, who has fronted Catchphrase, Rolling In It, and In For A Penny, had been midway through filming a high-energy challenge segment when the emergency unfolded.
ITV has not yet issued an official statement, but production sources say executives are now reassessing safety protocols and reviewing the feasibility of continuing the series without delays.
You Bet!, originally a staple of Saturday night TV during the late ’80s and ’90s, was recently revived with Mulhern at the helm in a nostalgic bid to recapture family game night glory. The show combines celebrity guests with members of the public performing outlandish stunts and challenges, but clearly no one bet on this fiery twist.
