You’ll Never Guess Which Zara Larsson Song Just Took Over TikTok, Again!

Zara Larsson is having a major moment, again. Despite being a global pop star for more than a decade, the Swedish singer is back in the spotlight thanks to a surprising viral twist involving one of her older hits.

Speaking to Variety during a new episode of Know Their Lyrics, Larsson revealed she was caught off guard when her 2017 collaboration with Clean Bandit, "Symphony," suddenly exploded across TikTok. “My friends started sending me these videos,” she laughed. “It’s this very fun, colourful Lisa Frank aesthetic mixed with captions like ‘I’m an alcoholic’ or ‘I have severe depression’, all set to this beautiful song.”

Although "Symphony" had already amassed over 1.3 billion views on YouTube before the TikTok boom, Larsson admitted the trend made the song feel fresh again. “It’s amazing. A classic good song is always a good song no matter the time,” she said. She added, "I’ve always been here, obviously in my world, but for a lot of people, they’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, that song, Zara Larsson, hey.’”

The unexpected viral moment couldn’t have come at a better time. Larsson is gearing up to release a brand-new era of music, and she’s genuinely thrilled about what’s coming. “I am working on new music that makes me so excited for people to hear,” she revealed, describing her new material as a celebration of empowerment and club-ready pop anthems. Working closely with longtime collaborator MNEK, Larsson said the creative process felt “easy” and “magical,” explaining, “He and I wrote all the songs together.”

Her first offering from this new chapter, "Pretty Ugly," is anything but predictable. “It’s not your typical pop song,” she said. “It definitely hits you in the face when you hear it.” Larsson also highlighted a major change in her creative environment: “It’s the first time I’m not working with straight men,” she laughed, adding, “It’s for the girls and the gays.”

Now 27, Larsson is embracing her artistry with new confidence. “I feel so satisfied with the music that’s coming out. Why wait? It’s ready, and it wants to enter the world,” she said. Reflecting on her journey from "Lush Life" to today, she added, “I used to be shy hearing my songs in the club. Now I’m like, ‘Hey, turn it up!’”

Beyond her own projects, Larsson is also cheering on a new wave of pop stars. “I’m so excited about the new pop girls,” she gushed. “Tate McRae, I’m obsessed with her. Sabrina Carpenter, come on, she’s such a star.” Having collaborated with Carpenter on the "WOW" remix back in 2021, Larsson will now join McRae on the upcoming Miss Possessive Tour, hinting at even more exciting moments, and maybe a few new friendships, ahead.

With a fresh wave of music, viral fame, and a seat at pop’s top table, Zara Larsson is proving once again that true talent always finds its way back to the spotlight.
